Course Overview

This course is designed for people employed in the meat processing industry who work or will be working in the industry as Halal slaughter persons, supervisors in the primary processing area, stunning operators and Halal certification bodies. The course will provide the trainee with a basic understanding of the concept of Islamic law, the process of Halal slaughtering and Halal certification, Animal welfare requirements in the Halal slaughtering process, Animal welfare and Islamic law. Those trainees who wish to work as competent Halal slaughter person, will be required to do all three unit standards on this course. These also form part of the regulatory requirements for Halal quality assurance officers, Halal assessors and Issuing officers for the (AHO).

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for people who work in the meat processing industry including Halal slaughter persons, supervisors in the primary processing area, stunning operators and Halal certification bodies.
Trainees will be required to have prior knowledge of Shariah requirements in production and certification of Halal food and food products as part of their Risk Management Programme.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, trainees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Halal slaughter requirements in a meat processing operation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Shariah in the production and certification of Halal food and food products for a primary products food processing operation.

Trainees completing unit standard 25927 will be able to:

  • prepare to produce Halal meat in a meat processing operation and
  • produce Halal meat in accordance with Shari’ah and organisational requirements.

Assessment

  • US 25926 – Demonstrate knowledge of Shariah in the production and certification of Halal food and food products (Level 3) (5 credits).
  • US 21623 – Demonstrate knowledge of Halal slaughter requirements in a meat processing operation (Level 3) (5 credits). 

Compulsory unit for slaughter persons 

(Practicing Muslim trainees only)

  • US 25927 – Produce Halal meat in a meat processing operation (Level 3) (10 credits). Theoretical component to be completed on the course and practical component and verification letter to be completed post-course.

Note: For each credit allow around 10 hours of learning.  

Duration

1 day classroom

Post-Course Learning

Post-course workplace learning with attestation required, to be completed within 10 weeks from start date and returned to training@asurequality.com (Applies to trainees opting to complete 25927).

Pre-Course Learning 

Two weeks before the course you will receive pre-course reading material. Please make sure you take the time to go through this document and familiarise yourself with the subject.  This is to help you make the most of your learning experience on the course.

Entry Requirements

To complete this course, you must be trainees must be employed in the industry OR have successfully completed the recruitment process by the Meat Industry Association or with a potential employer. A letter from your employer or the MIA requiring this training will be required.

(if you are not currently employed, our Halal Awareness course may be suitable).

Trainees completing Unit Standard 25927, must be a practicing Muslim.

Trainees will be required to already have practical knowledge of Shariah requirements in production and certification of Halal food and food products as part of their Risk Management Programme.

English Proficiency

All students are required to have a level of written and oral English equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or higher to be eligible to attend the courses.

Please note that evidence of English language proficiency is exempt for those trainees whose enrolment has been organised and paid by their employer.

Age requirements - You must be 18 years old or older to enrol into our courses.


Your role

The client accepts full responsibility for failure to abide by any pre-course or post-course requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, completing and returning
course documents, evidence of competency, attestation forms.
Clients will be given a timeframe to complete these forms and return to AsureQuality. Failure to return a completed attestation or verification before due
date may prevent the unit standard from being processed as competent, certificate issue and fail to complete recorded on the training record.

Enrolment duration 

In order to meet the required enrolment duration for this course, we request some or all of the following information to be provided prior to awarding the unit or completion of the training.  

  • Completion of pre-course reading and activity
  • Achievement of theory assessments on course
  • (i) Prepare to produce Halal meat in a meat processing operation
  • (ii) Handle and process meat products in accordance with Shariah Law & your workplace requirements
  • Supply of documentation to support the above post-course activities (attestation provided by a workplace observer) 
  • This assessment should be completed within 10 weeks of the course start date
